It's almost here!

It's coming like a runaway freight train!   There is no way to stop the first day of school from arriving, (hopefully it will not run us over!).  I'm pretty sure I will be almost...maybe...close to...nearly....well, maybe not quite ready, but I'll be there!  I hope you young men, yes I'm speaking to you Ulices and Matt, are out running, stretching and exercising in this heat to get prepared for the soccer season.  Looks like the first game is less than a month away, and I'm not sure if practice starts until the first day of school.  Good luck!  Is anyone else playing this year???  How about the girls field hockey team???  Will I know anyone there?  I've made  a commitment to myself to come see games this year, hopefully I'll know  a few of the players.

enjoy the last couple of weeks!

Matt, Matt,  Matt,  Matt,  Matt!!!

Here I try to start a little blog so some of us can periodically keep in touch and you go and get all serious on us!!!!  What's a teacher to do???  Well, I'm no expert on family crisis....wait a minute, I do have a stepdaughter, and come to think of it, things were a little rough at times so maybe I do have some experience and besides, I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night!  Ok,Ok....enough of the feeble attempts at humor...You are in a tough spot and obviously have some hard feelings toward your dad. However, going back to one of my favorite sayings and beliefs, you can only control you, not what anyone else says or does, but only you and everything you do, say, think and feel.  I would suggest that you turn this situation into a positive one as best you can.  Easy...no, but I have some ideas and I know you will too when you are able to look at the whole picture.  How about this, I'm going to go into my classroom later this week, probably Thurs. to start arranging the room and put together some bookshelves I just bought.  I sure could use some help and I believe I could even spring for a lunch.  If the family topic comes up, we'll address it, if not, we'll catch up on the summer, and what we are expecting from the upcoming school year, soccer,  Obama' health plan, the ever increasing national debt or what ever comes up! and oh yea, get those bookcases put together.  Give me a call 381-4880 if you are interested!

As far as the Outer Banks, you are right, it is a great place.  I have stayed in Nags Head several times and ride up toward Corolla once in a while, but have only been down past the Oregon Inlet to Hatteras once I think.  I usually play golf but there are lots of wonderful things to do, including eating at great restaurants!  Fill me in on where you stayed and what you where up to.

I thought the summer was moving along at a great pace, nice and slow....until now when only a couple of weeks remain.  How do I put the brakes on this runaway train!!!!! It is going too fast now!

Summer Vacation

Hope everyone's having a wonderful vacation, I feel like I have done a lot and there is still almost a month to go!!!!!  So far I have been to Alabama, boy was it hot and humid!), New hampshire to participate in the Seek the Peak hike up and down Mt Washington (boy was it hard!), played a little golf, done a lot of work around home and played out in our band quite a bit.  As a matter of fact, I met someone on the golf course who brought up your name Matt.  He was a retired school teacher from New Jersey and when he found out where I taught, he asked if I knew Matt Rogers!  It ends up his name is Don Dwyer and he lives in Chapel Green (I believe this was the name of the development) near Lewes.  I guess your dad has done some work for him but apparently you have helped him with some guttering or painting or siding or something like that with your dad at his home!  He said some really nice things about you... I thought he was talking about someone else!   (just kidding!)  You all will find out it is a really small world out there as you go different places and meet different people as you go through life.

Another example was as we were coming back from New Hampshire, we stopped at a gas station in Massachusetts.  A young woman in the car behind us, saw our Delaware tag, came up and asked where in Delaware we were from.  It ends up that she is from the Barton family in Seaford and my wife knows her father very well.  They own Bartons Southern States about 5 miles from where I live and go there all the time.  She now lives in Connecticut and was on her way home after camping in Maine.  What are the odds of us meeting at some gas station in Mass???? Meetings like this seem to happen all the time!

Hope everyone has a great August and comes back ready for school.  I have to make it a point to see some of the middle school soccer games this fall so please stay on me about getting to them!

take care

Yes, scientists have discovered life on the 4th grade blog!!!!

I'm checking often myself, but usually just  a quick look to see if anyone else has stopped in.  My vacation is going great so far, lots of time left...or so I keep telling myself!  Hope everyone else is enjoying their time off also.  if this rain will ever stop, maybe I can even get outside!

Help!

All right Mr. Matt, I need some help from you.  I have been selected as our elementary school teacher of the year.  It's a wonderful honor, and, as I am learning , a lot of work.  I have to prepare a portfolio and one of the submissions are letters of support or recommendation.  I was hoping to talk a former student into creating one.......hmmmmmmm....I wonder who I could be thinking of???  I will try to reach you at either school or home tomorrow to see if you are interested, but thought I'd get  you thinking about it if you were on the blog by chance tonight.  Of course there is a time crunch, this is due by next Tues.! Hopefully I can catch up with you tomorrow.

Thanks

Tough Week

What a hard week this has been.  Kayla and Tashaun's tragic accident has deeply touched all of us who have been around them in school.  I just finished looking back at the pictures I took of our class throughout your 4th grade year, it certainly brought back a ton of memories.  Your class was a special one with many close friendships.  As the years go by, friends tend to go their own ways,  but I'll bet many of you will remain close for a long, long time.

I heard Miss Gordy spent a lot of Weds. at the middle school with you, I wish I did too.  I'm sure she provided as much support to you as I know you did to her.  It is at these tough times in life, that you need your family and friends the most.  Don't ever take them for granted.

Thinking of all of you

Go Cardinals!!!

What do you mean you can't believe it???  Didn't everyone pick the Cardinals to be in the Super Bowl????   Me neither, it was very disappointing to see the Eagles go so far and lose.  Oh well, as the saying goes, there is always next year.  Wouldn't it be great though if the Cardinals can beat the Steelers!

I can't wait for the cold weather to end, especially if there is no significant snow.  Bob the gecko says hi to all.

What a great vacation...it seemed to last forever...that is, until today!  New Years Eve was very cool again this year. I keep thinking that being in Times Square in NYC on NYE is something I should do at least once, but then I see all those people there and it makes me think anyone who wants to be there for that must be not all there!

All right all, its time to buckle up for the next couple of months until DSTP.  I guess I better get some sleep, it's going to be hard to get up tomorrow!

Happy Holidays

I hope everyone has a a great vacation!  Sorry I haven't been here in a while. I've been spending lots of time with wikis, the 4th grade on as well as a new one for Georgetown Elementary School  www.georgetownelementarywiki.wikispaces.com as a whole.  Hopefully it will be attached to the elementary school web site.  Anyway, I really enjoy seeing correspondence on here, even though it is down to basically Ulices and Matt.  Take care, no fights! and I'll try to do a better job on my end.
